OUR HISTORY
Making a difference in our community since 1981
Spearheaded by a group of families in the Lanark County area, LCSS first started supporting adults with developmental disabilities in 1981 in Perth under the name Life Skills Lanark County. The services later expanded to include Smiths Falls, Carleton Place and Almonte.
At it’s inception, the mandate was to provide adults with developmental disabilities the opportunity to become more independent in the community, at work and home through individualized, more person focused instruction. Throughout the years, LCSS evolved and grew to meet the ever changing goals and wishes of individuals and their families to offer diverse, holistic, person directed services. Due to the continued changes, growth and evolution of the services provided by the agencies, the name Life Skills no longer encompassed the broad range of support and services that existed. In 2001, the organization became Lanark County Support Services.
Today, LCSS’ commitment and passion continues to thrive as it moves forward in the vision of a fully inclusive society. 2021 marks LCSS’ 40th year of service to people living in Lanark County.
